Summary
Read our September round-up featuring PA stories, local charities, community events, dementia support and personalised care across Buckinghamshire.
September has been another busy month for Hub Care Support, with plenty of opportunities to connect with our local community, celebrate our Personal Assistants and share the wonderful work happening across Buckinghamshire.
From heartwarming feedback about the difference a PA can make, to local support groups, community singing and a milestone for our Facebook page, it’s been another month full of stories that show what personalised support and strong community connections are all about.
PA Spotlight:
This month, our PA Spotlight shines on Jo, also known as Josephina, following some lovely feedback from the person she supports, V.
The feedback beautifully captures the relationship they have built and the difference Jo makes to V’s everyday life. From going to the gym and travelling by bus and train to baking, arts and crafts, playing games and enjoying time together, Jo helps V get involved in activities, build confidence and enjoy new experiences.
V shared:
“I like the way she makes me laugh doing her job and open up with me and doing nice things together.”

V went on to describe Jo as “a lovely and an amazing person and a brilliant PA”, explaining how much they appreciate the way she looks after them and helps them stay safe.
It’s a wonderful reminder that being a PA is about so much more than practical assistance. It’s about building trust, encouraging independence, sharing experiences and helping people enjoy the things that matter to them.
Thank you, Jo, for the care, enthusiasm and kindness you bring to your role.
PA Updates
We were delighted to welcome Marion and Rebecca to the Hub Care Support register during September.
It’s lovely to see them already being introduced to opportunities to support people in our community. We wish them both every success as they begin this new chapter.

Charity of the Month

In August, we were proud to support Cancer Connect as our Charity of the Month.
Cancer Connect provides a welcoming, non-clinical community for anyone affected by cancer. Their relaxed coffee and chat sessions offer a chance to meet others, listen, share experiences if they wish, and find out about local support available throughout and beyond a cancer diagnosis.
It’s wonderful to see the group growing, with the success of their daytime meetings leading to the introduction of an evening session too.
Upcoming meetings include:
- Tuesday 6 October, 7pm–9pm at The Spade Oak, Bourne End.
- Friday 16 October, 10.30am–12.30pm at Flowerland, Bourne End.
For more information, contact cancer.connectlocal@gmail.com.
We are pleased to support community initiatives like Cancer Connect, which help people feel less alone and provide opportunities to build friendships with others who understand what they may be going through.

Community Choir
Our Community Choir continues to bring people together through the joy of music, and September was another opportunity to share laughter, familiar songs and plenty of smiles.
The choir is about much more than singing. It’s a welcoming space where people can meet others, enjoy themselves and experience the benefits of doing something together. Whether attending independently or with support from a PA, everyone can join in at their own pace.
Our next session takes place on Tuesday 13 October at 1.30pm at Hughenden Garden Village in High Wycombe.
Everyone is welcome. You can simply turn up or book your free place through Eventbrite.

Congratulations to Sing Your Pain Away
We also have some exciting news to share. Our Community Choir collaborators, Sing Your Pain Away, have been named finalists in the Bucks Business Awards in the Creative Business of the Year category.
We’re delighted to see their work recognised and wish them every success at the awards final on 4 November 2026.
Out and about in the Community
Building relationships with local groups and organisations is an important part of our community engagement work. It helps us understand what support is available locally and enables us to signpost people towards activities, services and opportunities that may benefit them.
September has given us plenty of opportunities to do just that.
High Wycombe Library Coffee Morning
We joined the community coffee morning at High Wycombe Library, held on the first Thursday of each month.
These informal gatherings provide a welcoming opportunity for people to socialise, meet others and enjoy a friendly chat. It’s lovely to see spaces like this bringing people together within the local community.
It was a fantastic opportunity to share more about Hub Care Support and the people, organisations and communities we are fortunate enough to work alongside.
Singing for the Brain, Beaconsfield
We enjoyed a visit to Singing for the Brain in Beaconsfield, a service provided by Alzheimer’s Society.
Sessions use singing to bring people affected by dementia together in a supportive and enjoyable environment. It’s another example of how music can create opportunities for connection, shared experiences and enjoyment.
Whether you are looking for support for yourself, a family member, or simply want to understand more about what a PA can offer, we are always happy to have a conversation.
Prestwood Friendship Club
Larissa visited Prestwood Friendship Club to introduce Hub Care Support and explain how our Personal Assistant service works.
It was also an opportunity to talk about the success of our Community Choir and the positive impact that group activities can have on social connection and wellbeing.
The group meets on the third Wednesday of each month at Prestwood Methodist Church.

Age Concern Lunch Club, Great Missenden
We also visited the weekly lunch club run by Age Concern in Great Missenden.
The club continues to thrive, providing local residents with opportunities to enjoy a meal, spend time with others and build friendships. Community groups like this play an important role in helping people remain socially connected.

Chesham Memory Café
Our visit to Chesham Memory Café gave us the opportunity to enjoy some singing with Adrian and take part in conversations inspired by The Daily Sparkle.
If you haven’t come across it before, The Daily Sparkle is a reminiscence newspaper designed to provide daily stimulation, interest, enjoyment and conversation for older people, including those living with dementia.
We used it to spark memories of school days, and what a lovely conversation followed! We reminisced about playground games, school assemblies, the register and, of course, school dinners.
It’s a wonderful reminder that a simple prompt can open the door to meaningful conversations and treasured memories.

Care Networking at GreenAcres Chiltern Park
This month’s care networking event took place at GreenAcres Chiltern Park in partnership with Signature at Farnham Common.
It was lovely to catch up with familiar faces and meet new people who share our commitment to supporting the local community.
We also heard from Sally Blackden, a dementia specialist, who delivered an insightful talk about living with dementia, recognising signs and symptoms, and ways to provide understanding and appropriate support.
Opportunities like these help us continue learning and strengthen relationships across the local care sector.

Bucks Older People’s Action Group (BOPAG)
We attended another BOPAG meeting in High Wycombe, where Sue from Memory Partners Tai Chi Café gave an engaging talk about the research behind Tai Chi and its potential benefits for people living with dementia and neurological conditions.
It was great to hear Sue raising awareness of the work being done to support wellbeing through gentle movement, shared activities and social connection.

800 Facebook Followers!
We were overjoyed to celebrate reaching 800 Facebook followers during September.
A huge thank you to everyone who follows our page, likes our posts, shares our stories and helps spread the word about Hub Care Support.
Social media is an important way for people to discover our service, learn more about the role of a PA and see the many different ways personalised support can make a difference.
Every share helps us reach more people who may benefit from our service or be interested in becoming a PA.
Our next milestone is 1,000 followers! So, if you’re not already, click here and start following us so you can be sure not to miss out on any of the events we’re attending or what we’ve been up to!
Looking Ahead: The Big Sleepout
Have you heard of Wycombe Homeless Connection? This local charity supports people experiencing homelessness and works to help individuals find a route away from homelessness.
With the Big Sleepout just around the corner, Larissa and Mel are preparing to take part once again to raise funds for this important cause.
The event takes place on Friday 13 November, at The Walled Garden in West Wycombe.
It’s a chance to spend a night sleeping out under the stars while helping raise valuable funds for local people experiencing homelessness. If you’d like to take part or support the fundraising, visit the Wycombe Homeless Connection website for more information.
That’s a wrap for September
From the relationships built between PAs and the people they support to the charities, friendship groups and community organisations working hard across our area, September has been another reminder of the importance of connection.
At Hub Care Support, we believe that support should be personal, flexible and built around the individual. Whether it’s helping someone enjoy a favourite activity, attend a local group, get out to a concert or simply have someone to talk to, it’s often the little things that make a big difference.
And finally….
Have you seen or sat on our pink sofa yet? 💗 We’ve created a video showing our infamous sofa and some of the people who have come and sat on it – from staff members, PA’s, service users and friends.
Take a look at our latest video here and who knows, you could feature on the next one:
Thank you to our PAs, clients, families and community partners for continuing to be part of our journey.
