May has brought us some wonderful sunshine, providing plenty of opportunities to get out and about in the Buckinghamshire Community, and enjoy the longer days. A little sunshine always seems to brighten everyone’s mood, and it has certainly been a busy and positive month for Hub Care Support.
Charity of the Month

With Dementia Action Week taking place during May, it felt particularly fitting for our Charity of the Month to be the Memories Café in Thame.
Through our community engagement work, we have had the pleasure of learning more about the incredible support they provide, not only for people living with dementia but also for their families and carers.
The café is coordinated by Karen, a retired nurse with over 40 years of experience, who leads a dedicated team of volunteers. Together, they have created a welcoming, supportive, and stimulating environment where people can connect, share experiences, and enjoy meaningful activities.
One aspect of their work that particularly stood out to us is the support they offer carers. The opportunity to spend time with others who understand their experiences, exchange advice, and simply have a conversation can be invaluable.
Sessions are thoughtfully designed, with activities tailored to suit varying attention spans and interests. Many sessions also feature guest speakers who provide engaging talks on a range of topics.
Every time we visit the Memories Café, we are struck by the warmth and friendliness of everyone involved. We were delighted to provide a donation from Hub Care Support, alongside additional funds raised through our Community Choir event.
The Memories Café meets at Thame Snooker Club from 10am to 1pm. Mondays are for people living with dementia, while Tuesdays welcome both attendees and their carers.

Looking Ahead: June’s charity
In June, we will be supporting Carers Bucks as our Charity of the Month. We are looking forward to working alongside them during Carers Week and helping with several events that recognise and celebrate the vital role unpaid carers play within our communities.

PA Spotlight of the Month
Our PA Spotlight for May shines on Kathy.
Kathy joined the register in 2024 after spending 19 years as a Registered Manager for a local domiciliary care provider. She brought with her a wealth of knowledge and experience, making her a natural fit for the role of Personal Assistant.
As well as being a regular visitor to the Hub office, Kathy is known for her warm, friendly, and dependable approach. Her professionalism and commitment to delivering high-quality support are regularly recognised by those she works with.
Recent feedback highlights her compassionate nature, extensive knowledge, reliability, and ability to make a positive difference during every visit. Her experience allows her to support clients safely while maintaining a person-centred and thoughtful approach.
We are incredibly proud to have Kathy as part of the Hub Care Support network.

Dementia Action Week
Throughout Dementia Action Week, we shared stories from members of our PA community who are helping to raise awareness and support those affected by dementia.
These included Carolyn’s journey to becoming a Dementia Friend and Carol’s participation in Trek26, raising funds for Alzheimer’s Society in memory of her mother. Their stories were a wonderful reminder of the many ways people can make a difference.

Community Choir Launch
One of the highlights of the month was undoubtedly the launch of our Community Choir.
Led by Jane and Joanna from Sing Your Pain Away, the first session welcomed 26 participants. Together we sang familiar favourites, shared plenty of smiles, and finished with a lively rendition of Dancing Queen.
The event demonstrated the power of music to bring people together, lift spirits, and create connections within the community.
We are looking forward to doing it all again at our next session, make a note of the date: June 9th at Hughenden Garden Village in High Wycombe at 1:30pm.
We hope you enjoy this short video clip of the fun we had.
Out and About in the Community
United Reformed Church, Beaconsfield
Larissa and Hub Care Support founder Marrilyn were invited to speak at the church’s monthly breakfast meeting. Marrilyn shared the story behind Hub Care Support and how her vision became a reality, while Larissa spoke about the service today and how it continues to support people across the local community.
Thank you to everyone who made us feel so welcome.

Mental Health Awareness Week
As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, we attended the Active in the Community “Come and Try” event at High Wycombe Library.
The event highlighted the importance of movement, social connection, and wellbeing. We went along to support our friends at Memory Partners, who delivered a Shibashi demonstration and encouraged attendees to try something new.
Grey Matters Consultancy Information Evening
A huge thank you to Nicky Graham from Grey Matters Consultancy for hosting an informative session covering topics including wills, powers of attorney, attendance allowance, blue badges, and future planning.
Attendees left with valuable information and practical guidance on a range of important topics.

OpportuniTea Café
This month we also returned to one of our favourite local venues, OpportuniTea Café in Holmer Green.
The café provides meaningful employment opportunities for adults with learning disabilities, helping individuals build confidence and develop valuable workplace skills. It is always a pleasure to support such an inspiring initiative.

Buckingham House Care Home
We met with Emma from Buckingham House Care Home in Gerrards Cross to discuss future opportunities for collaboration.
Building relationships across the local care sector is an important part of our community engagement work, and we always welcome opportunities to work together for the benefit of those we support.

Looking Ahead
June is already shaping up to be another busy month, with Carers Week, community events, and plenty more opportunities to connect with local organisations and services.
Here’s hoping the sunshine stays with us a little longer.
Thank you, as always, for being part of our community and supporting the work we do.
